Post Post subject: Thankyou - From Greeny
I just wanted to say a big thankyou to all the well wishes that people have posted and over the last week I have now had a chance to read them and I really appreciate it.

Also to the boys who took the time to come and visit me in the hospital and at home - you know who you are, thanks very much as those visits pretty much got me through the rough times in there.

There is one person I really wanted to send a huge thankyou to and that is the Forrestfield Physio who looked after me when I first broke my leg, you where fantastic and really kept me calm and looked after me until the Ambo arrived. I hope your hand has recovered. Wink

The verdict was I broke my tibiar and fibiar and also my ankle, I had a steel rod inserted into the biggest bone and now am at home trying to recover. Still in alot of pain and my foot is completely numb - still waiting to see if I will have permanent nerve damage which means I will have the numbness permanentely but hoping for the best that I will make a full recovery.

Thanks again to everyone involved and your well wishes, hopefully I will catch up with some of you soon.

Thanks,
Greeny

All the best with it mate. Went through a similar situation after breaking my leg ( against Forrestfield too!). Back playing now though and although not %100, I am getting there.

The first month or two are the hardest though and I still have my steel rod. PM me if you want any info mate.

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

Foot is stil completely numb and causing me some concern but will have to wait and see if the damage is permanent. I am just concentrating on getting better at the moment and will make a decision whether I will play again if and when this recovers fully.

Hi Bill

Yeah I was done in good and proper thats for sure........ I am pretty devastated about it all actually.

My progress.........Hmmmm well not good really as I still have pain in my shin when I walk which causes me to still limp and my foot is still completely numb which the specialist tells me is a 60/40 for me making a recovery. If there is no improvement in the next 12 months then the specialist will most likely refer me to another specialist who will attempt to locate the nerve and do micro surgery to attempt to repair it. If this fails I will be left with a numb foot indefinitely, however if successful I will hopefully get most of the feeling back.... In truth at the moment they just really dont know. They wont operate on the nerve damage now because if they open me up again now they risk giving me a bone infection with the break still healing.

I still live in hope that I will make a full recovery and that at some stage I will be able to play again but its looking even more likely that my playing days may be over. I am not sure what I will do next year as I dont think I will be able to play in the short time but I dont think I will be able to stay away from the game so mght look at some form of coaching but not sure yet.

Thanks for your kind words, they are appreciated.

Latest Development.....

So I saw the specialist this morning and the news is unfortunately not good as my break is not healing ie: not knitting together so now I have to go back into the hospital for day surgery to remove one of the screws to see if bringing the bones closer will help. If this does not work then the surgeon will have no choice but to remove the existing rod and replace it with a new shorter one to help the bones heal together, the down side to this is that I will be put back to square one on treatment.

Getting very dejected with it all really and its all getting very depressing.

Cheers
